Writing is the
one of important skill that must be learnt by student. However, many students
have difficulties in writing descriptive text. The problem in this study is formulated as follows: is there any
significant difference on students’ writing descriptive text before and after
being taught using circular cards of the eighth grade students of SMPN 1 Ngantru in the
academic year of 2014/2015?. Based on the problem, the researcher wants
to conducts a research that is teaching writing by using circular cards.
Circular cards can increase the students skill in writing because the students
can be more active and creative in learning writing descriptive text. The
research objective is to know whether or not there is significant difference on
students’ writing descriptive text before and
after being taught using circular cards of the eighth grade students of SMPN 1 Ngantru in the academic year of 2014/2015.
The researchers used pre-experimental design, by one-group pretest-posttest design.
The population of the eighth grade students of SMPN 1
Ngantru was 374 students, the researcher took 10% of the population by using
simple random sampling. So, the researcher got 37 students. The
data collecting method of the research was test
and documentation. In analyze the data, the researcher used
SPSS 16.0 for windows program to calculate normality test,
homegenity test, linearity test
and t-test.
Based on the
results of the calculation by using SPSS 16.0 for windows program and the
criteria of test, it was assumed that the test was normal, homogeneous and linear.
After that, the researcher analyzed the mean of pretest and posttest scores. The mean
scores of pretest was 64.86 and posttest was 77.03. Then the researcher calculated t-test, from the paired sample test table showed that the
significant tailed was 0.000. If
significant level was 5%, thus 0.000 < 0.05,
it means that the alternative hypothesis is accepted and the null hyptothesis
is rejected. In conclution, there is significant difference between students before and
after being taught using circular cards in writing descriptive text.
After finding the result, the researcher would give some suggestion. To the
students, they should be more active and creative in teaching learning process. Besides, the English teacher should provide an
opportunity to students to have an extensive writing practice. And the
researcher expected for the further researchers that this thesis would be
useful as a reference to conduct a similar research or media.
